Why I Created K.I.S.Trace®

Forage vs Ration Balancers
The definition of forage is Noun- Plant material that livestock graze or that is cut and fed to them. -The act of looking or searching for food or provision. Equine are designed to eat forage and forage for their food. It is healthy for them to follow this design as closely as possible. The limitations of inorganic trace minerals are that they are either low in supply in most regional forage sources and they compete in the gut with the more abundant supplies of iron and manganese.
“Forage balancer” is a newer term in comparison to “ration balancer” which is a product formulated to provide the protein, vitamins and minerals the average mature equine needs without adding carbohydrates that come from a feed concentrate. With a ration balancer, the horse is fed less carbohydrates, but have increased nutrient levels. In contrast, a forage balancer can add or raise missing or low level nutrients for the equine either with very little grain in the diet or forage only.
Flavor Options
Due to the fact that some horses prefer one flavor over another we have two flavor options in the Original line. K.I.S.Trace Original contains anise and fenugreek, while K.I.S.Trace Original A/M contains anise and molasses flavor, no sugar added. Pickier horses seem to prefer the Anise Molasses flavor.

Which version do I need I am in Tennessee 15 minutes to the North Carolina line. Which should I order. Grass hay only diet. Benn using your protect for years now wondering on if I got the right formula.

Do you know how much sugar the molasses in the No selenium A/M powder adds? We are currently on the low selenium powder, but are curious how much molasses is in the A/M? Some of our horses are sensitive to sugars
The K.I.S.Trace A/M version contains no sugar just molasses flavor. None of our products contain sugar. 🙂

How do you feed this to pasture horses that get no grain?
There are 11 equine in the pasture together.
Hi Stephanie, I have had this question before and a few people with large herds out on pasture do mix a salt to KISTrace powder ratio and put it out free choice. They have reported good results from doing this. Email me if yo want to try this and I will assist you on how it is best carried out. thornebottom@hardynet.com

This product is AMAZING! I noticed a definite increase in the shine of my horse’s coats within days of starting this supplement. I also have a dieting pony who needs a balancer to her feed and this put such a shine on her coat. I bought the powder bc it goes farther and all the horses love it. This is one supposed;ement that my barn will never be without.
I started my 2 mares on a forage only diet 3 years ago after finding out my chestnut mare is allergic to basically everything in grain and that’s why she looked so poor. I found K.I.S trace about 2 years ago and have been feeding it ever since. This product is AMAZING. They have never looked so good, no matter what grain I tried. I have not had an abcess, both my horses walk over stones with no ouchies, no chips out of their feet (even when I slacked on having them trimmed after I had my daughter). One bag lasts my 2 roughly 40 days & I combine K.I.S with chia seeds, elevate Se, & salt.
This diet is my horses must.
I learned about K.I.S. when my mare appeared to have metabolic syndrome. She had her first foal that year and had been on a mare and foal feed. I had anticipated weight loss while nursing and she was getting the recommended amount, but turned out she was an easy keeper and was gaining weight. When she had a bad bout of laminitis I began feeding K.I.S.Trace. After several weeks on a dry lot, soaked hay and K.I.S. she recovered but she and my other horses have been on K.I.S. ever since. My mare’s feet have better growth, she no longer struggles with terrible seasonal allergies, my gelding who had terrible midge allergies and awful skin is now finally growing a mane (we had tried ALL the shampoos, skin treatments etc) and my coming 2 year old filly has a tail that touches the ground and a mane well past the bottom of her neck (without primping or braiding etc – she’s 100% turn out). They all also keep a nice shine, even out in the brutal Florida sunshine all summer.
I am not usually someone that is easily wowed by products. I just use the ones that you can actually see a difference. I now currently have all of my horses on KISTrace powder. I also use the KISTrace GI Pellets for one that is slightly nervous. I have posted pictures below of a Mare I have have, when I bought her she was always dull looking, she was 3! I just thought it was her baby stage. As she got older nothing really changed. UNTIL I found KISTrace! It has been life changing for all of my horses and my feed program! But the proof really showed up in this mare!
